Our School

The Monterey Adult School is a place for people to come for a chance to acquire the skills and knowledge to be successful in today's world. This may mean becoming more employable, more able to successfully participate in community college or university, or trade school, and/or better able to assist their children in their academic progress. The staff recognizes and responds to each student as an individual with unique needs. In addition, the staff meets each student where he or she is now and helps him/her move forward to where he/she wants to go. Without this "stepping stone" available to them, many would not have the resources to move forward in their life.

The purpose of California's adult education program is to (1) provide all adults in California the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to participate effectively in today's economy and society; and (2) to meet the particular needs of local communities. The Monterey Adult School is committed to provide lifelong educational opportunities and services that address the unique needs of individuals and the communities served by the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. The Monterey Adult School provides the knowledge and skills necessary to participate effectively as citizens, employees, parents, family members, and consumers of goods and services, and leisure time activities. Monterey Adult School is authorized to issue high school diplomas and appropriate certificates. The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Board of Trustees and the California State Department of Education approve all courses.
